SC08 - Ethernet Alliance Celebrates 35 Years of Ethernet
The Ethernet Alliance will be participating at SC08 in Austin, Texas, November 17 - 20, where we will recognize the 35th anniversary of the invention of Ethernet. Show coordinators estimate more than 10,000 attendees and 265 exhibitors for this year's event. The Ethernet Alliance has upgraded to booth # 2514, so make plans now to visit the Ethernet Alliance as we demonstrate the following:
A converged 10 GbE network with a server cluster accessing two separate storage arrays. The servers and iSCSI storage are connected by low latency Ethernet switches, and the Fibre Channel storage is accessed via an FCoE switch. A variety of fiber and copper media will be used to demonstrate the flexibility of 10 GbE interface and cabling options, including passive/active CX4, 10GBASE-T, XFP and SFP+. Each of the storage arrays has geological/seismic data that is processed by the server cluster, and the results are sent to a workstation that displays a geological oil well model in 3D.
Booth participants are Cisco, Extreme Networks, Force10 Networks, Fulcrum, Ixia, Mellanox, Panduit, QLogic, Solarflare, Teranetics and Tyco Electronics.
Ethernet Ecosystem Panel at 2008 ATCA Summit
Make plans to attend the Ethernet Alliance “Ethernet Ecosystem” panel at the 2008 ATCA Summit on Tuesday, October 21 at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Time and room location TBA in the coming weeks.
The panel will bring together various experts from the Ethernet community to explore the direct synergy of how Ethernet impacts ATCA blade server systems, and the indirect synergy Ethernet has on ATCA blade systems via its influence on the ecosystem that is integrating ATCA blade systems.
Panelists include:
Anthony Faustini, Cisco
John D'Ambrosia, Force10 Networks
Asif Hazarika, Fujitsu
Mike Bennett, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab
Jag Bolaria John D'Amborsia Asif Hazarika Mike Bennett
IEEE LCN 2008
The Ethernet Alliance University Program is a proud sponsor of the upcoming IEEE LCN 2008 Conference being held on October 14-17, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency Montreal in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
The IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks, sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society, is one of the networking industry's oldest, continuously running conferences. The LCN focuses on practical, leading-edge applications and research in the area of computer networks. It has an informal, workshop-style atmosphere, offering significant opportunity for speakers, panelists, and attendees to spend unstructured time together.
EAUP Presentation: 10:00 - 10:15am
EAUP Introduction: Ken Christensen, Professor and Director of the Undergraduate Program for the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of South Florida.
Special video presentation: 2008 EAUP White Paper Challenge winner, Francisco Blanquicet, discusses his experiences with the EAUP and will give an overview of his winning white paper.
